Week One Is Done. Here's What Happened When Summer Camp Began at Wayland Montessori

There is something that happens in the first week of a new community. Children who have never met start finding each other. Routines that felt unfamiliar become the thing they look forward to. The classroom, or the courtyard, or the walk to the fire station starts to feel like theirs.

That is exactly what happened in Week One of Wayland Montessori Summer Camp.

Welcome to Summer

Week One was all about getting to know each other. Our theme, Welcome to Summer, was as much about building trust as it was about any specific activity. Children met their teachers, found their spots, and began the gentle process of becoming a group.

Water Play days brought out the painters and the pretenders. Practical Life days had children working side by side in the kitchen. And our first Wild Field Trip Friday reminded us all that the best classrooms do not have walls.

What's ahead

Eight weeks remain, each with its own theme and its own surprises. Next week we move into Colors and Art in Nature, and the tie-dye shirts and flower garlands are already waiting.

If you have been watching from the sidelines and wondering whether summer camp at Wayland might be right for your child, we would love to have you join us. Children ages 15 months to 6 years old are welcome, and families can register by the week, the month, or for the rest of the summer at [registration link].

This community is something special. Come be part of it.
