Careers at Wayland Montessori

Our Mission for Our Team

Wayland Montessori has offered authentic Montessori education since 1974. We are a small school, and every guide here knows each child’s interests, strengths, personality, and developmental needs. We want the school to feel calm, joyful, and welcoming for the children, the families, and the adults who work here.

Our team is how that happens!

Our guides are passionate about their work and value the whole child: how each one thinks, feels, moves, and grows.

Guiding the Montessori Way

Every child develops at their own pace, and a prepared environment lets each child choose work that fits where they are. That belief shapes everything here, and it shapes the way we guide.

As a guide at Wayland, you observe before you present. You watch a child’s concentration, coordination, interests, and readiness, then offer the next lesson one-on-one or in a small group. You pause before helping, so a child has time to work something through on their own. You keep every material complete and in its place, ready for the next child who chooses it.

So what does that look like day to day? A child carries a glass pitcher to the table and pours with care. An older child shows a younger classmate how to roll a rug. A child who has watched the Moveable Alphabet for weeks finally reaches for it and builds a word. You notice these moments and know what comes next. If that is the kind of guiding you have been looking for, you will feel right at home here.

Why Work at Wayland Montessori

Wayland is a small, close-knit school where the team works as one. Our guides plan together, speak confidently with families about Montessori, and join our Head of School to give tours. Professional development is built into the school year, so we regularly revisit our practice and adjust based on what we observe in the classroom. We strive to provide an authentic Montessori experience, and we invest in the guides who make that possible.

At Wayland, you feel the difference:

· A small team where everyone knows each child and each family
· A Head of School with an AMI 3 to 6 diploma who mentors guides in Montessori practice
· AMI Montessori training for interested guides, fully paid by Wayland, including your stay
· Real Montessori materials in a bright, calm, and orderly environment
· Ongoing Montessori study and professional development throughout the year
· Families who value Montessori and see the school as a partner in their child’s growth

What Your Day Looks Like

Your day begins as children arrive, care for their belongings, settle in, and choose their work. You’ll spend the morning observing, giving presentations, and protecting the uninterrupted work cycle. You’ll guide the children through the preparation of snack, arrange flowers, and care for plants, greet families at drop-off and pickup, and compare notes with your fellow guides on what you’re seeing in each child.

Your hours depend on your role. Lead Guides generally work 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and lead our enrichment programs during that time. Assistants generally work 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the guides on the later shift, usually Assistants, care for children in aftercare. Exact hours vary by assignment.
