The Wayland Montessori School

Wayland Montessori has offered an authentic Montessori education in Wayland since 1974. Today we welcome children from 15 months through 6 years. We are a small, close-knit school led by Head of School Roberta Medina Costa, M.Ed., who holds an AMI diploma for ages 3 to 6. Our guides know each child well: their interests, their strengths, and what they are ready to learn next.

Visit during the morning work cycle and you will see many children doing different work at the same time in a calm room. One child arranges fresh flowers for the classroom. Another builds words with the Moveable Alphabet. A guide sits with a third child, giving a lesson chosen for what that child is ready to learn. Each child is building concentration, independence, and care for the people around them.

Toddler Program (15 months to 2.9 years). Toddlers build language, movement, and self-care in a warm, peaceful room with consistent routines. They grow in confidence and feel that they belong.

Primary Program (2.9 to 6 years). In our mixed-age Children’s House, children work across Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Cultural Studies, Art, and Music. Older children lead by example, and each child moves ahead when they are ready.
