Why Our Newest Students Start with a Gentle Phase In

Today, September 9, our newest students began their first day at Wayland Montessori. They'll ease in gradually over three days, and we planned it that way on purpose.

On the first day, a new child stays for just a couple of hours while a grown up waits close by. The second day stretches a little longer, through lunchtime with the group. By the third day, our newest students stay for the whole day, including naptime.

For many of these children, this is the first time they've ever separated from a parent or caregiver. A slower start builds trust before it asks for anything harder. Each short, successful day gives a child a reason to look forward to the next one.

This approach helps grown ups too. Starting with shorter days gives families time to adjust alongside their child, without the worry that comes with a long first day apart.

We're proud of how gently our newest Wayland Montessori students are finding their footing this week.
